The Grainger Director of the Rush Arthritis and Orthopedics Institute
    Associate Chairman, Department of Orthopedics
Professor, Departments of Cell & Molecular Medicine and Internal Medicine, Division of Rheumatology

    Overview:
Dr. Wimmer’s research focuses on the phenomena between interacting surfaces in natural and artificial joints. His research interests have been in joint biomechanics as related to joint health. Early on in his career he started to apply the technical principles of tribology to natural joints in an effort to combine engineering practices with biological tools. In order to comprehend the effects of load and motion on cartilage, several custom apparati were developed that are now in research use worldwide. As such, the custom built equipment is successfully used for tissue engineering and cartilage wear related questions. Next to the Tribology lab, he is also directs the Rush Human Motion laboratory, so Dr. Wimmer has considerable experience in gait and related joint loading.

PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
