The goal of her work is to develop effective smoking cessation interventions, particularly for those who face disproportionate barriers to quitting due to comorbid chronic illness or mental health conditions. She is currently conducting an NIH-funded study that focuses on behavioral treatment development for smoking cessation among individuals with COPD. Dr. Mathew also provides behavioral health services in the Rush University Prevention Center.
